Astrological Mysteries of Sridham Mayapur

Srila Prabhupada explains in Srimad Bhagavatam (1.12.12 purport) that the most auspicious constellation of stars takes place during the appearance of the Lord in this material world, specifically called jayantī. He explains that it is a very special astrological combination when this event takes place.

Of course, a non-devotee astrologer may conclude that the Supreme Lord is under the influence of stars, but He is actually the controller of the stars. In the same purport, Srila Prabhupada mentions that a proper place is selected to receive extraordinary personalities.

Many devotees know that Sridham Mayapur is located almost exactly on the Tropic of Cancer. The Tropic of Cancer is an imaginary circle of latitude on the Earth that marks the most northerly position at which the Sun may appear directly overhead at its zenith. It separates the areas of more Light from more Dark.

Sridham Mayapur is known as the place where Caitanya Mahaprabhu appeared. Caitanya Mahaprabhu is a combination of Krishna (who is very dark) and Radharani (who is very effulgent). Symbolically, the Tropic of Cancer is exactly the line where Light and Darkness meet! In this way, the birthplace of Caitanya Mahaprabhu is marked on the Earth by astrological calculations, going directly through the kunda at Yogapith.

It is also interesting that a very unusual temple is being built in Sridham Mayapur. The Temple of the Vedic Planetarium is a combination of religious deities and a scientific planetarium. Material science is represented as darkness and deity worship as light. These two will melt together in this monument of Vedic culture, proving Bhaktivinoda Thakura's discovery of Yogapith.
