An overview of the Grihastha Ashram (householder stage) in Vedic culture and the 12 principles for successful Krishna conscious family life.
The Importance of the Grihastha Ashram
The word "Grihastha" literally means "one who is occupied with home and family." This stage focuses on fulfilling duties towards family, society, and oneself by pursuing Dharma, Artha, Kama, and Moksha.
It is crucial because it nourishes, sustains, and preserves all other ashramas (brahmacari, vanaprastha, sannyasa). "We require so many householders to set the example for others — how in Krsna Consciousness we can live peacefully and sanely, even in married life." — Srila Prabhupada (1968)
