How Lord Nityananda's mercy delivered the rascals Jagai and Madhai, demonstrating that the devotee is more kind than the Lord Himself.

Lord Nityananda's Mercy on Jagai and Madhai

Without the mercy of a devotee, nobody can approach the Lord directly. It is easier to get the mercy of a devotee than that of the Lord.

Lord Nityananda, passing on the street, saw a crowd howling. He found two drunken rascals, Jagai and Madhai, disturbing the people. He thought it wise to deliver them so that Lord Caitanya's mercy could be known. When Nityananda approached, He was immediately hurt by their violent attack.

On hearing this, Lord Caitanya became angry and called for His Sudarsana cakra to kill them. But Lord Nityananda implored Him to save them instead. Seeing Nityananda's kindness, Jagai and Madhai came to their senses, surrendered, and were delivered.

Devotee Mercy is the Smart Path

Lord Nityananda or Baladeva is the original Spiritual Master. A pure devotee takes risks to reclaim souls who might otherwise be rejected by the Lord. The devotee knows the Lord wants everyone to return home, and tries to induce them to take to Krishna consciousness.

Thus, a devotee is more kind than the Lord Himself. Pleasing a pure devotee means immediate satisfaction of the Lord. The most intelligent way of approaching God is to take shelter of a pure devotee.
