Historical Background
Bhishma Panchaka refers to the five days during the Kartika month dedicated to special spiritual practices. Grandfather Bhishma, one of the greatest maharathis in the Mahabharata, observed these five days with great austerity. It is said that Bhishma chose to leave his body on this auspicious period.
Spiritual Significance
These five days are considered the most sacred part of the already-auspicious Kartika month. Observing special vows during this period destroys all sins and bestows the highest spiritual benefits.
