Radhashtami celebrates the appearance of Srimati Radharani, Krishna's eternal consort and the feminine aspect of the Absolute Truth. She is the Hladini-shakti (pleasure potency) of Lord Krishna, appearing in Vrindavan as the daughter of King Vrishabhanu and Queen Kirtida. Her name comes before Krishna's in the Hare Krishna maha-mantra.
