Historical Background
Snana Yatra, also known as Devasnan Purnima, is an ancient festival originating from the Skanda Purana. King Indradyumna established this grand bathing ceremony for Lord Jagannath. The deities are bathed with 108 pots of sanctified water from the Golden Well (Suna Kua) amidst Vedic mantras.
Spiritual Significance
Witnessing the deities during Snana Yatra is believed to absolve all sins. The festival marks the appearance of Lord Jagannath and precedes the 15-day Anasara period when the deities recuperate before Ratha Yatra.
Blessings & Benefits
Sponsoring the Jalabhisheka ingredients (water, sandalwood, turmeric, perfumes), the Hati Vesha (elephant attire), or the medical offerings during Anasara brings immense spiritual merit. Donors receive the Lord's special blessings for purification.
